Westland Walkers
Westland Shopping Center and St Mary Mercy Hospital welcome you and are committed to supporting you in a more active lifestyle.
Walking for exercise has increased in popularity due to its enormous benefits, low stress to the body and ease with which it can be done. Most people enjoy walking during the fall, winter and spring months, when they don?t have summer activities to keep them busy. During the winter, weather conditions prevent some people from doing their walking workout.
For this reason, Westland Shopping Center began opening its doors before usual operating hours for people who wish to walk for exercise.
Westland's climate controlled environment makes walking for exercise safe and comfortable all year for people of all ages as well as for those whose physicians recommend such an exercise program.
Walking begins at 7.00am through Arcade 2 (by Olga's Kitchen) Monday thru Saturday. All other doors are locked until approximately 8.30am. On Sunday all doors are opened at 10am. Please do not open locked doors to other walkers; the doors are alarmed until opened by our Security Department.
Westland Walkers hold a meeting in the Community Room, located in the lower level, on a Wednesday morning. Please cal 734-425-5001 to check when the next meeting has been scheduled. The meetings begin at 9.30am.
To Become a Member of Westland Walkers:
Register to become a walker by filling out a Registration Card that you can pick up from our Customer Service booth in East Court. You can then pass on the card to the Customer Service Associate or place it in the Walkers Box located on the side counter.
Monthly mileage cards, which track the miles you walk each day, are also at the Customer Service booth. All mileage on these cards should be miles that you walked inside the Westland Shopping Center only. Deposit the mileage cards in the Walkers Box at the end of each month.
At various time, some of the fitness incentive programs implemented do permit activity outside the mall to be logged. This will be indicated at that time and it will be for that specific timeframe only.
Mileage:
- Walking the mall with all the arcades (hallways) should be considered ¾ of a mile.
- Walking the mall without all arcades (hallways) should be considered ½ a mile.
You don?t need any special equipment other than a pair of comfortable, supportive shoes.
Please consult your physician before beginning this or any exercise program. Remember to stretch before starting to walk.
Please be courteous to the Westland Shopping Center staff. For your own safety, please avoid all roped or sectioned off areas.
