WESTLAND MAYOR, POLICE, FIRE PARTNER FOR “SAFTEY WHILE YOU SHOP” AT MALL

Posted

Westland, MI – With the holiday season virtually in full swing, Westland Shopping Center is a pretty popular destination – and the perfect venue for Westland Mayor William R. Wild to present “Safety While You Shop,” a day predicated on fun, cheer, and, of course, safety.  “Safety While You Shop” is Saturday, December 6, 2008 from 12 p.m.– 4 p.m. in the east court of Westland Shopping Center. Mayor Wild is partnering with the Westland Police and Fire Departments as well as Westland Shopping Center on this effort, and the afternoon will include the distribution of essential household items such as smoke detectors and bike helmets for children.  All of the items are free.

“We want to underscore the importance of keeping your family safe during this time of year,” said Westland Mayor William R. Wild.  “Amid the hustle and bustle of holiday happenings, we want to remind residents of this by hosting an event that is fun – and also free of cost, particularly during these tough economic times.”

In addition, the Westland Police Department K-9 Unit will be on hand with their canines, Drago and Friday, along with members of the Westland Explorers, a career-oriented program that gives young adults the opportunity to explore a career in law enforcement by working with the Westland Police Department.  A non-monetary raffle will also take place, which will enable participants to win a home fire-safe inspection from the Fire Department and a behind-the-scenes tour of the Westland Police Department. The former will include home installation of fire alarms and extinguishers, educational books, and CPR/first aid reference materials; the latter will enable the winner to experience Westland Police Department operations and a glimpse of their equipment. Participants must be a resident of Westland to enter.

Westland Shopping Center is located at 35000 West Warren at the northwest corner of Wayne and Warren roads.
